FCAT is a new student achievement test that specifically addresses a student's
ability to perform on standards that Floridians have chosen. The test questions
and performance tasks are written to measure specific Sunshine State Standards
benchmarks in the areas of reading for grades 3-10 in mathematics and reading
and in science (grades 5, 8, and 10). The
Sunshine State Standards are a statewide consensus of what Floridians believe
their children should know and be able to do at each stage of their lives.
